Fitna - Dedicated To Open Minded, Liberal Muslims.

Less than a minute into the movie, a liberal Muslim will come to the conclusion that; yes, Islam promotes violence. He or she will agree that this is so because it's all in the Qur'an. And that, my friend, is what Geert Wilders is trying to do. He's trying to convince the Muslims who have never bothered to study the Qur'an all their life into believing that the West has been right all along about Islam being the religion of violence. How else do you explain all those verses in the Qur'an that Geert Wilders have conveniently collated for you? The Qur'an is after all, the ultimate truth. I dare say that as high as 60% of the Muslims in the world have never been aware the existence of those verses in the Qur'an. Or maybe they are aware but I dare say that as high as 90% of the Muslims have never bothered to seek the tafsir for those verses, or have never bothered to understand why Allah orders the Muslims to do something like that. And so when a couple of Muslim men hijacked a plane to slam it into the World Trade Centre building, can the West be blamed into believing that those guys acted in accordance to what has been stated in the Qur'an?
To a liberal, open-minded Muslim, his or her faith is now shaken. He or she is inclined to agree with the West. He or she is a step closer to being a more liberal person and eventually an infidel. He or she will see the images on TVs, Muslims all over the world chanting, death to Lurpak Butter or Danish Cookies, or Shell. He or she will see people burning the Danish flag outside the Danish Embassy. He or she will come to the conclusion that the Muslims are prone to anger and violence over a film that seems to be making a very valid point about the Qur'an, Islam and Muslim. Never mind if the film is nothing more than Geert Wilders' perception of Islam based on what he has seen being done to innocent lives by Muslim men and women encouraged by the verses in the Qur'an.
Amidst all this, just like it always has been, no one from the Muslim world dares to come up with an explanation what those verses mean. But instead everyone in the Muslim world is out to get Geert Wilders, the way they came out in full anger demanding Salman Rushdie's blood, or Hirsi Ali's head. And just like it always has been, the Muslim world will issue statements after statements condemning the film.
Explain what those verses mean.
Explain why the Muslims must have faith in those verses.
Explain why the quality of our iman depends on how strongly be believe in those verses.
Explain why we'd rather die than to see a single letter in those verses removed.
Explain. So that we don't have to go out in the mid-day sun to protest and to chant Allahuakbar! Explain.
And pray that Geert Wilders be shown the hidayah of Islam so that the hijab that covers his heart be lifted. There must be a reason why Allah maintains those verses in the Qur'an, just as Allah maintains the verses on slavery and other seemingly archaic concepts. There's gotta be a reason. For heaven's sake, be angry all you want but the West needs the explanation. They are used to seeing angry mobs on the street chanting Allahuakbar! that they themselves can chant the same thing with perfect Tajwid.
Explain please because 90% of the Muslims don't understand why those verses are there. I say this because there are only 14 students in my class who have to juggle between work, family and friends to attend class in order to understand the Qur'an, to become a better Muslim. Compare this with million of other Muslims out there at the shopping malls or watching movies while a Qur'an class is being conducted in a quiet little corner of an old building in UIA.
Assalamu'alaikum. Tonight, read a surah or two. Iqra'.

Salam Bergen. I share your sentiment, but unfortunately I've reached the point where I couldn't care anymore about what the west think about Islam & Muslim. Its selfish I know. Maybe you could enlighten me on one of those verses that you mentioned?

Dhahran: I believe yours is a stance that will soon become popular among a lot of Muslims. I reckon the accusation has now been taken to another level. It used to be easy to say that Islam doesn't promote violence by saying that those who bombed the innocent lives are political fanatics.

Geert Wilders has thrown the Qur'an back to us. We gotta deal with this by not acting the way Muslims always do i.e street protest and burning the flag, chanting Allahuakbar.

It should start with every Muslim learning the Qur'an. To make Qur'an our heart. To understand it. Ask ourselves, how willing are we to sacrifice time, energy, money to study Qur'an.

It's not the time to be angry. It's the time to be intelligent. And Qur'an is the ultimate intelligence. You won't see it unless you study it. Unless you love it more than anything else in the world.

Salam Bergen:

Alhamdulillah,a nice letter you wrote here. Its simple and direct to the point. And the points you made is the truth about Muslims.Liberals and non-liberals.

Yes, explaination needed not only by the western world but also by many Muslims all over. I would like to say that most probably 75% of Muslims are able to read the Quran.Maybe only about 30% understood what they read in Arabic. And most probably only 5% take the effort to learn what is written in the Quran. Most of then are religous scholars who wanted to be an ustaz or ustazah. And maybe about 1% of layperson takes the effort to attend Tafsir classes or hadith classes.

But at least they still get angry when the Quran or our beloved Rasulullah s.a.w. is being insulted. But it would be better is channel our angst by explaining as what you said.

Can we blame people like Geert Wilders if they come out with films or books or paintings that insults Islam? These people had formed a perception on what they have seen or what they were made to understand about the going ons in the muslim community. And of course they generalised everything to Islam. They don't care if what we Muslims do are not allowed by Islam in the first place.

Islam is being insulted because we are not good Muslims. We are muslim ,yes. but many of us are not Mukmin yet.

We call ourself malay Muslim,Pakistani Muslims,Bangladeshi Muslims, Saudi Muslims,Palestinian Muslims,Iranian Muslims,English Muslims etc. Why not just Muslims?

Most of us a very nationalistic or racial at heart and Islam comes in second. That is Na'uzubillah for us.

It will take a long time for us to be a Mukmin but it can be achieved by learning the Quran and not just reading it musabaqah style.

Doc: Have we been really tested to see what we are made of? To see if we still submit to Allah eventhough the going is rough? These are questions we should be asking ourselves.

What's important is for the muslim not to insult the own religion. The others can think what they want be they key point lies with us...the muslim and muslimah...

Only god knows best...

Ahmad Salleh: Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think you read the title and didn't bother to read the rest.

Monstermom: Expect to see more of that happening now that Mr. Wilders has selective picked the verses from the Qur'an that seem to suggest that Islam promote violence. A lot of Muslims are gonna be in a difficult position to defend against the attack from this front.

Bergen:

No, we have not been tested for our faith yet. What happened now is just a fleck of dust on the kitchen table.
But there are some who had been tested like Bosnia Herzegovina. that is a test of faith for most of them.

I am worried if ALLAH test us with that kind of severity many will jump ship. I do hope we will not have to go through that.

to Ahmad Salleh: by name there is no liberal and non-liberal Islam.
But by attitude it does exist. And there are many amongst us even in Malaysia.

Salam, Bergen.
I absolutely agree that the time is ripe for Muslims to engage people like Geert Wilders in a dialogue instead of confirming their perception of Muslims as militants.
Wallahu'alam.

Baitibadarudin: Thank you for visiting. I believe we shouldn't be too quick to be angry. Maybe people may think we're sissy if we don't get angry. Let's be honest with ourselve, things like this can make us kill those who mock Islam, Qur'an and Rosulullah s.a.w but I believe it's a good idea to see where those misunderstanding come from.

I don't know. I'm no scholar to be dealing with something like but I believe one can be as stupid as a donkey but if one is blessed with the nur hidayah, he or she is more intelligent that a college professor who's heart is covered from receiving nur hidayah.

after watching the movie/documentary, I don't blame the west when the so called ulamak preaching fear and killing of the infidels. But to be fair to the preachers, the whole speech should be view entirely because we don't know what was the full text or video.
It is difficult to judge based on that movie only.
